Matilda (1996)

Rated PG for elements of exaggerated meanness and ridicule, and for some mild language

Runtime: 1 hour and 38 minutes

Genre: Kids and Family and Fantasy

Director: Danny DeVito

Writer: Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord

Actors: Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz, Pam Ferris and Mara Wilson

Budget: $36,000,000

Box Office: $33,462,471

Feedback: I found this to be unsatisfied, unhealthy and meanspirited. It's where they start putting in elements that don't belong in this idea where everything is destroyed. The biggest concern would be the dark tone elements that are being put into this film and being rude and mean to children and Matilda. The parents are not great, same thing with the teacher, expect with Matilda and Miss Jennifer Honey. I'm expecting to have more like less strict and ugly characters with motivation and charm.

Positives:
  • A few character dynamics that are decent and sweet
  • Unique imagination

Negatives:
  • Special effects are dated
  • Very dark tone quality is poor
  • Over-the-Top and Unrealistic Slapstick humor was not great
